Climate and Landscape

The island of Cyprus is located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean and is within easy reach of the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. It is the third largest island in the Mediteranean cooupying an area of 3,572 sq. miles or 9,251 sq. km.

The island benefits from a superb Mediterranean climate. It experiences hot, dry summers that commence in May and last until mid-October; and mild, wet winters from November till about mid-February. The mean temperature during summer is 35oC or 96oF and 8oC or 42oF in winter.

The countryside has an inexpressible beauty. The complex of mountain ranges, especially the Troodos, have been truly blessed by mother nature and the golden, sunny beaches give visitors the opportunity to enjoy both winter and summer sports, which include skiing, mountain climbing and various marine/aquatic activities such as fishing, diving, snorkeling and water skiing.

In addition to these activities, travellers have the option of either visiting the cosmopolitan cities of Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos and Larnaca where they can enjoy shopping, frequenting cafeterias and nightclubs, or just relaxing in one of the many traditional rural villages, which exhale the Cypriot culture.
